Integrate Birdie with Kisi
Birdie is an operating system for independent indoor golf simulator venues, handling online booking, memberships, punch passes, lessons, leagues, events, and payments. Connect Birdie with Kisi to automatically grant or revoke customer door access based on real-time booking and membership status, enabling reliable, unattended 24/7 access with credentials managed entirely by Birdie. Cancellations, refunds, and expirations revoke access immediately with no manual admin work.
This is a partner-built integration, maintained and supported by the partner.
Prerequisites
- Kisi organization administrator rights
- A Birdie account with owner or admin access at the venue
- At least one door provisioned with Kisi hardware at the venue
Generate a Kisi API key
You need to have organization administrator or organization owner rights to create an API key. We recommend creating API keys from the organization owner's account, to avoid the API key becoming invalid when an organization admin loses their admin rights.
- Sign in to Kisi
- On the top right corner, click on your name and click on My Account
- Next, select the API tab and click on Add API Key
- Enter the name for the API key and your Kisi password and click Add
- Copy the API key shown on the screen and click Close
Create a group
For detailed instructions on creating groups, see Create a group.
- Navigate to Groups and click Add Group
- Create a group and add the doors that Birdie customers should be able to unlock
- Copy the Group ID by opening the group and clicking Copy ID, or from the browser address bar. The Group ID is the number after "groups/" in the URL (e.g.,
123456fromhttps://web.kisi.io/groups/123456)
Set up the integration in Birdie
- Sign in to Birdie
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations
- Under Door Access, find Kisi and click Connect
- Enter your Kisi Group ID and API key
- Click Test Connection to verify Birdie can reach your Kisi organization
- Click Discover Doors to pull the list of doors available in the group
- Enable the doors you want Birdie to control and click Save
Once connected, the connection status displays on the integration card. From there, you can run a test unlock, disconnect or reconnect Kisi, and update the stored Group ID and API key.
Configuration details
Birdie grants Kisi access based on a customer's live status in Birdie. Memberships, punch passes, lesson packages, and individual bookings can each provision access.
Grant access through membership plans
- In Birdie, go to Settings > Memberships > Plans and select the plan to edit (or click New Plan)
- Under Door Access, enable Grant 24/7 door access (or set custom access hours)
- Select which Kisi doors this plan should unlock
- Save the plan
Members with an active subscription to a plan with door access enabled are synced to Kisi automatically. Access is revoked automatically if a member's plan is paused, expires, or is canceled.
Grant access through bay bookings
- In Birdie, go to Settings > Bookings > Access Control
- Enable Send Kisi access to booking customers
- Configure the lead time (how many minutes before the booking start access is granted) and the expiry rule (how long after the booking end access is revoked)
- Save
Customers with a paid booking automatically receive a time-bound Kisi unlock, delivered by SMS and email, that only works during their booking window.
Grant access through punch passes and lesson packages
Punch passes and lesson packages follow the same rules as memberships. Any customer with an active pass or package, and any required orientation completed, is synced to Kisi for the doors configured on the underlying plan. Access is revoked automatically when the pass expires, is fully used, or is refunded.
How access works
- Birdie provisions and revokes Kisi access in real time as membership, booking, and payment status changes. There is no polling delay, and cancellations, refunds, and no-shows revoke access immediately.
- One-time bookings receive single-use unlock links that expire when the booking window ends. Members follow the persistent access rules configured on their plan.
- Operators running multiple locations under one Birdie account can connect each venue to its own Kisi organization or group.
- If a Kisi unlock dispatch fails, Birdie retries automatically and surfaces the failure to the venue admin so staff can intervene before the customer arrives.
- Only the identity fields needed to provision access (name, email, phone) are passed to Kisi. Waiver signatures, booking history, and payment records stay in Birdie.
Frequently asked questions
How does synchronization work between Birdie and Kisi?
Birdie writes to Kisi in real time as memberships, punch passes, and bookings change status. There is no scheduled sync; every status change (grant, revoke, extend, cancel) is dispatched to Kisi immediately.
Will customers be removed once their plan expires or is canceled?
Yes. Cancellations, expirations, refunds, and no-shows automatically revoke Kisi access. Members whose renewal fails lose access at the end of their paid period.
What happens if an admin adds someone manually in Kisi who does not exist in Birdie?
Birdie will not manage that user. Birdie only revokes access for users it provisioned itself, so manual Kisi-only additions are preserved.
Are waivers or plan details synced to Kisi?
No. Only the identity fields needed to provision access (name, email, phone) are passed. Waivers, booking details, and payment records remain in Birdie.
Do you support multiple groups in Kisi?
Yes. Each venue in Birdie can be connected to its own Kisi group, and each membership plan can specify which doors within the group its members receive access to.
Troubleshooting
Connection shows as failed or invalid credentials
Re-check the Group ID and API key entered in Birdie. The API key must be created from an account with Kisi organization administrator or organization owner rights. Regenerate the API key in Kisi and re-enter it in Birdie if the failure persists.
A member should have access but doesn't
Verify the member has an active membership on a plan with door access enabled, that the plan includes the correct doors, and that any required orientation has been completed. Use the Test Unlock button on the integration card to verify Kisi is reachable from Birdie.
A member was removed unexpectedly
Check the customer's Birdie profile for a recent cancellation, refund, failed renewal, or expiration event. Birdie logs every access grant and revoke on the customer's activity log for audit.
Doors are not unlocking
Confirm the door is enabled in the Birdie integration settings and that the Kisi group associated with your Birdie connection contains that door. If unlock succeeds in the Kisi app but not from Birdie, contact Birdie support so they can inspect the dispatch log.
