Assign door to controller
Now that your place has its dedicated controller, you can go ahead and assign a door to it. You controller will be responsible for this door.
Based on how do you control your door (with a Kisi Controller Pro 1 or through a Kisi Controller Pro 2 with Wiegand board), see the instructions on the tabs below.
- Kisi Controller Pro
- Kisi Controller Pro 2 with Wiegand board
- Navigate to the place where you have the controller assigned
- On the place dashboard, click on Hardware
- Select the Controllers tab and click the controller you see on the screen
- Click on Relays. This corresponds to the numbered relay on the Kisi Controller Pro to which your door was physically wired.
- Select the correct relay
- Under Edit Relay, select the corresponding door this relay is connected to
- Under Duration, define how many seconds the door should remain unlocked
- Click Save
When you assign a door to a Kisi Controller Pro 2 with a Wiegand board, you must assign a virtual credential to the Wiegand channel. This virtual credential needs to be added to the legacy access control system that's connected to the Kisi controller to enable unlocking via Kisi.
If you are installing your Kisi controller alongside a legacy controller owned by your landlord, kindly ask your landlord to add a new credential to their access control system under your name. Then, enter the same credential as the 'virtual credential' in the Kisi controller, following the instructions below.
- Open your place dashboard
- Click on the Hardware tab
- Click on Controllers and select your Controller Pro 2
- Scroll down to Wiegand connections
- Select the Wiegand device interface to which you wired the legacy controller
- Open the Type dropdown and select Legacy controller
- Open the Search door dropdown and select the door this controller is assigned to
- Under Card type, select the card type you want to assign to be used with the legacy controller, and fill out the required fields
- Select None if you don't want to assign any card to this Controller Pro 2
- Select Unknown card (UID and Length) if you are uncertain about your card type or do not have information about any of the required fields. For unknown cards, follow the instructions provided below.
- Click Save
Assign unknown card to the Kisi Controller Pro 2
Sometimes, you may come across a situation where you are unsure about the type of credential that needs to be assigned to a controller, especially if you received the credential from your landlord. In such cases, you need to choose the Unknown card type and ensure that you provide the correct UID (Unique Identifier) and Length.
To obtain the UID and Length, you need to scan the credential using a Wiegand reader. Follow the steps below:
- On the Kisi dashboard, navigate to Credentials
- Click on Add Credential and select Single credential
- Choose the At Reader tab
- Select the place where the reader, which you want to use for scanning, is installed
- Choose the door that is connected to this reader from the available options
- Select the controller and the Wiegand channel to which the respective Wiegand reader is connected. If the door has only one reader assigned, it will be automatically selected.
- Open the Card type dropdown and choose Unknown card
- Scan your card by tapping it on the reader
- Copy the UID and Length values displayed after the scanning process
- Go back to the Hardware > Controllers and select your Controller Pro 2
- Select the Wiegand channel that you connected to the legacy controller
- Open the Type dropdown and select Legacy controller
- Open the Search door dropdown and choose the door assigned to this controller
- Open the Card type dropdown and select Unknown type
- Enter the UID and Length values that you obtained from the scanning process
- Click on Save
On to the next step
You're all set. Now it's time to configure your readers.
- If you have a Kisi reader, you can assign it to your place.
- If you have a legacy reader, you can go ahead and assign a door to it.
