Non-admin access to incidents

Place admins can already see place-scoped incidents without custom roles. Custom roles are specifically for users who need to monitor incidents without access to any Kisi settings or administrative functions.

If you have multiple locations, you can set up place-scoped policies to give your place admins access to incidents. You can also create a custom role that grants access only to incidents and no other functionality in Kisi (an “Incident Responder” role).

Prerequisites

  • Organization administrator rights
  • At least one incident policy configured (e.g., tailgating policy)

Create the custom role

Place-scoped roles will only see incidents within assigned places, while organization-scoped roles see incidents across the entire organization.

  1. Sign in to Kisi
  2. Navigate to Settings > Custom Roles
  3. Click Add New Role
  4. Enter a name for your role (e.g., "Incidents Observer")
  5. Set the scope to Place or Organization based on your needs
  6. Choose the role with the least access needed as your base template
  7. (Optional) Click Select all twice to clear all permissions if you want only incident viewing capabilities
  8. Add the following six or seven permissions:
    • View Cameras
    • View Camera Snapshots
    • View Camera Snapshot Sets
    • View Events
    • View Incidents
    • View Incident Occurrences
    • (Optional) Manage Incidents - if you want users to resolve incidents and add notes
  9. Click Save

Create place-scoped incident policies

If you create a place-scoped incident viewer role, you need to create place-scoped incident policies to generate incidents for users to view.

Set up a place-scoped incident policy

You can create place-scoped policies for tailgating, anti-passback, hardware outage, and custom incidents. Follow the instructions to add an incident policy. When configuring the policy, make sure to select the specific place where incidents should be monitored in the Place section.

info

Place-scoped policies will only generate incidents for the selected place. Create separate place scoped policies for every place that needs incidents.

note

The user who receives notifications from the policy does not automatically get permissions to resolve incidents. To view and resolve incidents, they must be assigned the custom incident viewer role you created earlier.
