Schedules

Schedules are predefined rules that determine when access permissions are granted or restricted, based on the security and operational requirements of a facility. Modern access control systems provide various types of schedules to allow organizations tailor access control settings to various scenarios, enhancing both security and operational efficiency.

Types of schedules in Kisi

Access schedules

Access schedules ensure that a door can only be accessed during a defined time period. When applied to a group, Access schedules ensure that members of this group can only unlock doors during a defined time period. When applied to elevators, Access schedules make sure an elevator stop can only be accessed during a defined time period.

Example
  • As an admin, you want to ensure that your Main entrance can only be accessed from Mondays to Fridays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. To accomplish this, you can establish an Access schedule for the Main entrance, encompassing the time frame of Mondays to Fridays, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

  • As an admin, you want to ensure that members of the Visitors group can only access doors on Mondays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. To achieve this, you can set up an Access schedule specifically for the Visitors group, covering the time slots on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Access schedule exceptions ('Holiday schedules')

Access schedule exceptions ('Holiday schedules') allow you to override a previously set access schedule and deny access during a defined time period.

There can be three types of Access schedule exceptions:

  • Single event: the door deny access once, during the selected time period
  • Recurring event: the door deny access on a repeating schedule
  • Holiday events: the door will deny access during public holidays, based on region-specific calendars
Example
  • As an admin, you want to ensure that your Main entrance, typically accessible on weekdays, seamlessly transitions to a non-accessible state on specific days, e.g. on holidays. To achieve this, you can set an Access schedule exception for these doors by defining the specific days manually or simply selecting from the list of holidays in your region.

Unlock schedules

Unlock schedules allow you to keep a door unlocked during a defined time period. When applied to elevators, Unlock schedules keep an elevator stop unlocked during a defined time period.

Example
  • As an admin, you want to keep shared spaces like breakrooms, kitchens, or collaboration areas unlocked during business hours. To achieve this, you can set an Unlock schedule for these doors, covering your usual business hours.

Unlock schedule exceptions ('Holiday schedules')

Unlock schedule exceptions ('Holiday schedules') allow you to override a previously set unlock schedule and require valid access permissions to unlock the door during the selected time period.

There can be three types of Unlock schedule exceptions:

  • Single event: the door will remain locked once, during the selected time period
  • Recurring event: the door will remain locked on a repeating schedule
  • Holiday events: the door will remain locked during public holidays, based on region-specific calendars
Example
  • As an admin, you want to ensure that shared spaces, typically unlocked during business hours, seamlessly transition to a locked state on specific days, e.g. on holidays. To achieve this, you can set an Unlock schedule exception for these doors by defining the specific days manually or simply selecting from the list of holidays in your region.

First to arrive schedules

First to arrive schedules work alongside Unlock schedules, enabling two important use cases:

  • Delaying the activation of an existing Unlock schedule until the first authorized unlock ('First to arrive')
  • Ending an active Unlock schedule early when the last person leaves the facility ('Last to leave')
Example

You've set an Unlock schedule for Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Now, you want to ensure that:

  • The facility is never unlocked without at least one staff member present—especially during holidays or occasions when they might arrive late.
  • The office will never remain unlocked if your staff leaves earlier than 6:00 p.m.

To achieve this, you can add a First to arrive schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In this scenario, the planned Unlock schedule will behave as follows:

  • If the first authorized access occurs at 7:30 a.m., the Unlock schedule starts as planned, and the door unlocks at 8:00 a.m.
  • If the first authorized access occurs at 8:30 a.m., the Unlock schedule will be delayed until the time of the first unlock, and the door will unlock at 8:30 a.m.
  • If the last person leaves at 4:30 p.m. and presses the Request-to-Exit button set to Terminate Unlock schedules, the Unlock schedule will terminate earlier than planned, and the door will lock.

Schedule views

In Kisi, there are two views for schedules:

  • List view: The list view provides a configuration interface. By clicking on a schedule, admins can customize it (edit, enable, disable, delete) according to their requirements.
  • Weekly preview: The weekly preview provides a comprehensive overview of all schedules for the week, presenting them in their intended state, without taking into account the current lock state.
