Using two-wire solution
This option brings Kisi to doors that only have legacy wiring. Using a two-wire solution, you can reuse existing cables, while adding Ethernet to the Kisi readers without rewiring the site.
Benefits
- Seamlessly integrate Kisi
- Keep your existing wiring infrastructure intact
- No additional recabling cost
- Bring high-speed Ethernet to the edge for future-ready setups
- Enjoy the full range of Kisi features
What you need to upgrade
To upgrade your existing access control system with Kisi using the two-wire solution, you only need to:
- Acquire a two-wire switch and two-wire adapter
- Connect the two-wire switch to your network switch via Ethernet cable
- Connect your Kisi Controller Pro 2 to your network switch via Ethernet cable
- Connect your Kisi Controller Pro 2 to the Strike using existing legacy wiring
- Plug your existing legacy wiring, that previously went to your old controller, into the two-wire switch
- Plug the existing legacy wiring, that previously went to your old reader, into the two-wire adapter
- Connect your new Kisi Reader Pro 2.1 directly to the two-wire adapter
That's it! Your existing wiring stays in place, and you now have modern Ethernet connectivity at your door.
How it works
- Ethernet/Network connects to Network Switch, providing internet connectivity for the system
- Network Switch distributes connectivity to both Kisi Controller Pro 2 and two-wire switch using Ethernet cables
- Kisi Controller Pro 2 connects directly to the door strike with the existing legacy wire, providing direct control over the door unlock mechanism
- Two-wire switch connects to two-wire adapter using existing building legacy wiring, leveraging your current cabling infrastructure to send both power and Ethernet to the door
- Two-wire adapter connects to Kisi Reader Pro 2.1 with PoE cable, establishing power and communication at the door location
Power supplies are required for the Network Switch, Kisi Controller Pro 2, and two-wire switch. Check the individual hardware documentation for appropriate DC power adapters.
Access logic
Mobile app access
- The user taps to unlock in the Kisi mobile app
- Kisi cloud verifies the credential and sends unlock command to the controller
- The Kisi Controller Pro 2 opens the door strike
Physical credential and reader-based access
- The user taps a credential on the Kisi Reader Pro 2.1 (Mobile Tap, RFID, NFC, or MotionSense)
- The reader sends credential data to Kisi cloud for verification
- Kisi cloud authorizes and sends unlock command to the controller, which opens the door strike
This two-wire deployment provides access to all available access options including Mobile Tap to unlock, MotionSense, physical credentials, Bluetooth unlocks, and mobile in-app unlocks. No access limitations apply to this deployment. See migration paths to check what access options are available for different deployment methods.
