Add new Apple Pass

As a member of a Kisi organization with Single Sign-on and an active Apple Pass subscription, you can issue an Apple Pass for yourself.

Once you've added an Apple Pass, you can access facilities using your iPhone or Apple Watch without needing the Kisi mobile app, even if your device has a dead battery. To unlock doors, simply bring your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the corresponding reader.

Add an Apple Pass

While you don't require any specific permissions to add a pass, it will not let you access the doors unless the necessary permissions have been granted. Admins retain control over passes and can disable them for you after they have been provisioned.

  1. Sign in to Kisi on mobile via Single Sign-On (SSO)
  2. Navigate to the user settings
  3. Tap on Apple Pass
  4. Tap on Add to Apple Wallet (Note: this might take up to one minute)
  5. Once the card appears, tap on Add
  6. Tap on Done

Once the Apple Pass has been added to the mobile device, it will automatically sync with the Apple Watch if the watch is unlocked during the addition process. If the watch is locked for any reason during this time, you will need to redo the steps.

info

Each pass can only be linked with one iPhone and one Apple Watch, allowing a maximum of two devices of different types in total. If a pass is added to a new device, the pass on the previous device becomes invalid.

Supported unlock methods

  • Tap to Unlock: simply bring your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the corresponding reader

Note: If you want to use MotionSense, you must have the Kisi mobile app installed and Bluetooth enabled.

Common questions

Do I need to unlock my iPhone to use my Apple Pass?

With Express Mode, you don't need to wake or unlock your iPhone or Apple Watch to use your Apple Pass.

The same way you have always used your physical credentials - simply tap the reader with your iPhone.

If your iPhone needs a charge, your Apple Pass can still work. On iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and more recent devices, Power Reserve provides up to five hours of access, so you can still unlock doors.

You can use your Apple Pass even if the iPhone or Apple Watch does not have network connectivity, as the pass is stored on your device. If you are having any difficulty using your pass to unlock a door, report any issues to the systems administrator.

Each pass can only be associated with one iPhone and one additional Apple Watch.

Confirm that you have turned on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID. Verify that you are signed in to your iCloud account on your devices where you are adding your pass (i.e., iPhone and Apple Watch). If you are having issues logging in to your iCloud account, reset your Apple ID password. Confirm that your phone has Apple Pay enabled. Confirm in the Settings app that Terms and conditions with Apple have been accepted.

Please contact your systems administrator.

When your Apple Pass is added to Apple Wallet on your iPhone and Apple Watch, it's stored on your device. This means that Apple doesn't have access to the data regarding the places you access or when you access them. Your data remains private and secure.

If your iPhone or Apple Watch is misplaced or lost, your pass in Apple Wallet will be suspended once the device is marked as "Lost" in the Find My app. Once your device is recovered, your Apple Pass will be reactivated. You can utilize the Find My iPhone feature to suspend or deactivate your Apple Pass. Alternatively, please inform your systems administrator to deactivate the card in the Wallet for that device. Note: If a found device was suspended, you can reactivate it via iCloud.com or contact your Admin if it was deactivated by your system administrator.

On your iPhone, open Apple Wallet. Select your pass and tap the More button. Delete the pass by tapping on Remove Key.

Your other device will continue to work; however, you should mark the missing device as lost on icloud.com until it is found.

When using Express Mode (iPhone 6s or later), your pass will not be displayed with other cards in Apple Wallet for security reasons.

If you are using Express Mode, you do not have to do anything. If you are not using Express Mode, you will have to authenticate each time you access your phone. This is a user security preference. Note: Express Mode is turned on by default.
